Social Services and Healthcare at SCQF Level 6 SVQ
What is special about this course?
If you are pursuing a career in the Social Care sector, specialising in the care of adults, the SVQ 2 qualification is where you’ll need to start.
This is a work-based, part-time qualification which will allow you to register with the Scottish Social Services Council.
Work settings could include residential care for the elderly, working in the community, learning disability services, mental health, care at home, and many more.
Entry requirements
- You must be working or volunteering in a Social Services or Healthcare setting
You will be invited to meet with us to determine whether the course is right for you, before we confirm your place on this course.
- Support Effective Communication
- Support the Health and Safety of Yourself and Individuals
- Develop your Own Knowledge and Practice
- Support the Safeguarding of Individuals
Plus two further units selected by you in line with your current work responsibilities.
How will I study my course?
- Part Time
- Work based
You must be working for at least 12 hours per week. You’ll spend a further 4 hours per week in flexible time. There is no scheduled class time but you will be expected to attend regular meetings with your assessor. These are arranged to fit around your work schedule where possible and happen every 2-4 weeks.
Occasionally, you will also be assessed in your workplace.

What you do after this SVQ will depending on your job role and responsibilities. Further study might include:

Successful completion of this course will allow you to register with the Scottish Social Services Council and continue working within Social Services and Healthcare.
