SQA Invigilators
Join our team of SQA Invigilators at UHI Argyll
Invigilators play a vital role in all SQA National 5 and Higher external examinations held at UHI Argyll, and we currently have Invigilator requirements at many of our UHI Argyll centres.
Outline of duties
Invigilators have a key role in upholding the integrity of the SQA external examination process and duties will include (but are not limited to):
- Attend invigilator training sessions prior to the examination cycle.
- Secure storage, management and conducting of external assessments during the examination cycle, are in line with SQA security requirements.
- Assist with the collation of candidates’ external assessment material on completion of the external assessment for submission to SQA.
- Report any irregularities in the conduct of an external assessment or concerning matters arising during an external assessment, to the Chief Invigilator.
Applicants should be able to meet the following criteria:
- good communication skills
- good IT and administrative skills
- good organisational skills
- good standard of education
- able to work as a member of a team
- an ability to adhere to rules and regulations
- an ability to work under pressure and remain calm during unexpected circumstances
- be physically able to undertake the duties of the role
- not be an employee of UHI Argyll or associated with the centre
There are no formal entry requirements for this role as all training will be provided.
You would normally be required to invigilate for small groups of students (1-5).
You will be required to undergo a Disclosure Scotland PVG check (Protection of Vulnerable Groups) and be available to work on set dates (usually about 3 hours for each session) during the month's May and June.

- National 5 Mathematics - Wednesday 03 May – morning session (0830 start)
- Higher Mathematics - Thursday 04 May - morning session (0830 start)
- National 5 Applications of Mathematics - Thursday 04 May – morning session (0830 start)
- Higher English - Tuesday 09 May – morning session (0830 start)
- National 5 English - Wednesday 10 May – morning session (0830 start)
Invigilator Fee structure
In 2022 the SQA payment rates for invigilation at UHI Argyll were £10.60 per hour or £37.10 for a 3.5 hour session. The rates for 2023 have not yet been finalised.
