UHI Argyll Apprentice Mia Walker wins prestigious award at the Scottish Apprenticeship Awards
UHI Argyll is delighted to announce that Mia Walker, a 21-year-old from Brodick on the Isle of Arran, has been named Modern Apprentice of the Year SCQF Level 5 at the 2025 Scottish Apprenticeship Awards.

The awards ceremony, which took place last night at Perth Theatre and Concert Hall, recognised the best and brightest apprentices across Scotland, and Mia emerged as a standout in her category.
Mia's journey is an inspiring example of resilience and growth. Having struggled at school and facing challenges like dyslexia, her story shows how perseverance and support from colleagues can help to overcome obstacles.
The flexibility of a Modern Apprenticeship allowed Mia to find a learning style that suited her and has helped build upon her skills.
When asked about the benefits of her apprenticeship, Mia said:
“Doing the Modern Apprenticeship has really boosted my confidence and helped me develop my skills. I didn’t feel ready to leave the island so being able to stay at home whilst in a job was a big help.
“At first, I was anxious about doing coursework because of my experience at school but using videos to submit my work made a big difference and I felt totally supported on my learning journey. Successfully achieving the qualification is a great feeling.”
Mia’s managers say she embraces new opportunities, does training in her own time and is an integral and valued member of her team. Mia hopes to progress within the organisation at Auchrannie and work in different departments in the resort.
UHI Argyll extends its warmest congratulations to Mia on this well-deserved recognition. We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments and look forward to seeing the what the future has in store for her!
